I can't believe that this day is here!! After many months of nervous anticipation, Obama has won the election!! For the first time ever, I stayed up to watch the returns. Normally I am too nervous and can't take the tension, but I did it this time. I dozed off on the sofa around 11:15 and was jolted awake by the sounds of screaming from next door, and yelling and car horns nearby. CNN was showing that Obama had enough electoral votes to win, which was what set off the celebration. Lee and I ran outside, where we met our neighbors on the sidewalk. They popped open a bottle of champagne which we shared with them along with hugs and high fives, we cheered and called out to other neighbors, and we listened to the fireworks and sounds of parties all around us. We went back inside to hear Obama's speech, then Lee set off some bottle rockets. About 1:00 am I went in to bed, but Lee and John sat up and drank beer until after 2:00.
I can't stop smiling!
