Two funny things

Will said two things that I want to remember:

"Today during PE, we did the half mile run, and I tripped over a cone and did an eggplant." (He meant faceplant.)

After collecting his t-ball snack yesterday: "Mommy, this popcorn ball has mushrooms in it." (He meant marshmallows. I have been giggling at the visual of a popcorn ball with mushrooms.)

Did a hip opener class at John's studio yesterday; haven't done one since shortly after I started practicing, and I remembered it being much more difficult then than it was yesterday. One thing I wonder: why is yogi nidrasana so much easier than supta kurmasana?

All is coming.

Today's forearm stand. I can kick up lightly against the wall without my feet crashing into it, and balance for about five breaths. I found that moving my forearms closer together improved my balance. I still feel a bit wobbly, though, and I think it'll be a while before I can do this in the center of the room.

Yo! Great practice today.

I did full primary this morning for the first time in about three weeks. I don't know why, but I felt great and really flexy AND strong today - usually it's just one or the other. Maybe it was the humidity in the studio - I was leaving sweaty footprints on my mat by the time we started Trikonasana. I was so sweaty, I got my chin in my hands for the first time in Garbha Pindasana.

Weekend. Dinner party tonight (me and the kids, Lee is on his way home from a business trip to Chicago), yoga tomorrow while Lee takes the boys to a soccer clinic. Then t-ball on Sunday afternoon. For the love of god, I wish the weather would cool off. It's still muggy & in the high 80's every day.

Don't come around much anymore

Yeah, I've pretty much abandoned this blog. I only ever meant it to be a record of happenings to look back to, a way of keeping up with daily life. Life is keeping me busy, though. The boys have started school. It seems to be going well, though Michael being at the 4/5 Academy means I know a lot less about what is going on in his classroom. I did sign up to be his room parent, so I'll grin and bear it knowing I will have more communication with his teacher. Will's teacher is great, but a little more firm than his easygoing kindy teacher, so that has been an adjustment. Also, the reading recovery teacher told me that he is reading too fast and not comprehending what he reads like he should, so we've got some work to do with him, but overall he's doing well. Fall activities are starting: t-ball practice started last Tuesday, with games beginning in two Sundays. Soccer practice starts week after next for each of them, with games starting two weeks after that. Michael has joined the chess club at school and plays chess every Tuesday for an hour after school.

Michael turns ten on Wednesday. Where have the years gone? Where's that newborn boy? He's almost as tall as I am now. He got a pocketknife from Grandpa this weekend and has spent several hours whittling with it. He's requested spaghetti & meatballs for his birthday dinner, and carrot cake for his birthday cake. He still snuggles in my lap (though his long legs make it hard) and calls me mommy, but those days are numbered.

I've been continuing to practice yoga, though mostly at the local studio. At the end of July they had a traveling instructor from Core Power Yoga come and teach for a weekend as a preview to Hot Vinyasa teacher training, which is going on now. I took those preview classes and they rocked! Knowing that the teacher would be teaching every day during teacher training, I bought a month unlimited membership so that I could take as many of her classes as possible. I've taken one for the last three days and they've kicked my butt, but in a good way. I've been going occasionally to John's studio, but with the local studio a ten minute walk away and an unlimited month, I've been opting to practice there.

I've been working on pincha mayurasana in the once a week regular power yoga class at the studio, and am slowly working toward being able to balance - I can if I kick up against the wall, then move my legs away, but can't kick directly into it yet.

I'll update again before too many weeks go by.
